I'm quoting from memory, you can get the actual procedure from here

http://www.everyspec.com/USN/NAVAIR/download.php?spec=NAVAIR-TM-16-1-540.005634.pdfhttp://www.everyspec.com/USN/NAVAIR/download.php?spec=NAVAIR-TM-16-1-540.005634.pdf

Some bit of juice, since it has sugars in it, may be acting as a conductor
and shorting something out, or, if it's gotten into one of the micro
switches preventing it from making contact or like Sean said causing the fan
to stick.

Go get some distilled water (a couple of gallons <$1 each) dump that into
the sink and soak everything, except the hard drive (never tried this on
mechanical parts) get a soft applicator or paint brush and gently clean the
boards, then you can either let them drip dry, place them in a desiccant
environment (sack of rice) or in an oven on the lowest setting.

Like I said, I'm quoting from memory so you may want to check the link for
the exact procedure.
