Another possibility would be a 802.11 enabled iPad.. Jury still out on
the cellular version. Decent use for ebook reader, web access, email,
chat, etc.. Great app library, nice battery life.. Very well made but a
little heavy for one handed reading. Won't take the place of a laptop
for papers and stuff but great accessory for school, IMO. 

And yes, I use it more than my kindle although it could still be great
for someone who read a lot of novels and non-reference books (e.g. those
without graphics, math calculations, code, etc) as its still easier on
the eyes after hours of reading..
