I heard stories about these. Wolfman Jack, etc.

True. HD Radio seems neat in that it can expand the number of channels. 
It's bad in that it's so costly to license. There is a competitor that 
doesn't have the high costs, but isn't popular (FMeXtra or something.)

I keep meaning to look for a HD Radio tuner for my car stereo (assuming 
they are $50 or less.) Just to check it out.
