The thing is... the FCC didn't used to be like this. There was a time, back
before Reagan eliminated many of the regulations the FCC was there to enforce,
back before the FCC laid off most of their technical people and the rest of
them quit, when the FCC actually did what it was chartered to do.
There was a time, not long ago, when the FCC was actually a functioning
organization that existed to enforce communications regulations, before
they became a bunch of lawyers who had no concept of how technology actually
worked.
Write your congressman and tell him that you support S.2881, the FCC
Commissioners' Technical Resource Enhancement Act, which will require
commissioners to have someone on staff with a technical background:

This doesn't fix more than a fraction of the things that Reagan broke, but
it goes a little bit toward trying to fix them. The FCC was not always
a disfunctional organization and I don't think it has to remain one.
