Worst case, use Microsoft backup and do a full system state backup to an
external disk. Repartition and reinstall a base XP. Restore from backup.
It's ugly and time consuming but works without fear of loosing data,
missing important drivers and having to do a dozen update/reboot cycles.
When I redid my netbook, I just blew the whole thing away and reinstalled
from DVD. Took twice as long to get it reinstalled with all the drives and
patches needed than it did to put snow leopard on the netbook.
