All electronics is cool! I've bought various bits from them.

I picked up an IR LED today (after the huge flood in downtown Norfolk, for
a while I couldn't actually cross the street to the mall because there was
so much water). After figuring out how to the the remote stuff to work on
the AMX box with a normal LED, I switched to the IR LED. Nothing. After a
while of fiddling I thought that the normal LED looked a little dim, so I
held the thing up to the front of the Sony preamp I was trying to control
the volume on, and it worked :-)

So the range is pretty limited, most likely on purpose. So whatever I
find, it's gotta be something that I can nicely put close.

I thought for a second maybe I could open it up and solder a jack on the
back of the unit, and directly wire the controller to it. Some sony
equipment has a "S-Link" or other oddly named 1/8" jack which is just the
IR pulses done over a cable. But this particular unit doesn't have it.
