[Hrgeeks] IR emitter cables?

By any chance does anyone have any of those IR emitter things that stick 
onto A/v components and plug into devices that are spare?

If so, I'm in the market for a couple of them to use with this new-used 
automation hardware I've been messing with. I've got an IR LED, and was 
thinking it would beam the signal from a distance. But it turns out it's 
not ment to that, instead it seems to only drive the LED for a very short 
distance (I look up the cable they sell for it, and it indeed sticks to 
the device it's supposed to be talking to).
