HR-2600: Meeting Summary for September 4, 2009
by enferex on Sep.05, 2009, under 757labs, hr2600, website
Nice, chill, meeting this week. Lots of great talk and there was really little contention for talking. In attendance was Mark G, Paul, a brieeeefff appearance by Paul’s wife, the Spawn of Jody, Jody, Sunpuke, Remad, and myself. Some interesting discussions came up, such as music, queuing theory and its relation to real life, and table-to-chair-hight ratios. Short summary, however that factor should not be a testament to the meeting and its content. We stayed ’till kicked out. Ok, so “kicking-out” is a tad rough, we were nicely advised that the mall was closed.

libsheap: Sheap Helps Examine Allocated Pointers
by enferex on Jul.15, 2009, under 757labs, tools
libsheap is a simple shared library to aid runtime heap analysis of an application. This library wraps malloc and free calls. The allocated data returned by the memory allocator is output as well as the amount of CPU cycles between calls to the true, underlying malloc implementation. If glibc’s malloc, ptmalloc2, is used the actual size, including the header malloc attaches to each returned chunk is reported. The size of a returned chunk is typically more than that of what the user requests, as the extra size can help reduce fragmentation.
Special thanks to Google and stackoverflow.com where I learned about wrapping routines in the GNU/Linux system. Much of the wrapping code was paraphrased from Checker’s answer to a post over at stackoverflow.com Thanks Checkers!
This project is released under the GNU LGPLv3 license. So take to your shears!

SkeeBot (Skeeball) machine a success!
by Ethan on Feb.18, 2009, under 757labs, RFID, cons, electronics
1st place was taken at the 2009 Shmoocon Hacker Arcade for the skeebot modified skeeball machine! A conventional skeeball machine was upgraded. Features added include RFID authentication of the wooden balls, a 19″ widescreen LCD display, 1980 music videos, dollar and coin validation, 16.7 million color computer interfaced lighting, 750 watt strobe (also computer interfaced), seconardy LCD for digital ticket system (using USB port for thumbdrive), ground effects (also RGB LED based), and more! It was by far the largest, and technically only entry at this years arcade. Thanks to David of Outer Banks Amuseuments for the machine. The machine was given to Bruce & Heidi of the Shmoogroup (minus most electronics). We hope to see it in the future modified in all new ways. We’ve already got a list of new ideas for next year’s hacker arcade.
Eventually all source code and docs will be posted under skeebot at www.757labs.com. Video was also recorded to make a short video about the project.
Thanks to Remad and Enferex for much help in transportation, testing, and setting it up! Enferex wrote some code for a web component that unfortunately wasn’t finished. It might find it’s way into a future project though!

by enferex on Aug.16, 2008, under 757labs, audio, tools
I would like to announce the release of a 757Labs tool, mp3nema.
MP3nema is a tool aimed at analyzing and capturing data that is hidden between frames in an MP3 file or stream, otherwise noted as “out of band” data. This utility also supports adding data between frames, and capturing streaming audio.
This tool is under the GNU GPLv3 license. So have at it!
Thanks to Tele, skhisma, and the rest of the labs!

757Labs Tool: PDFResurrect
by enferex on Aug.03, 2008, under 757labs, security, tools
I would like to announce the initial release of the 757Labs’ PDFResurrect tool:
PDFResurrect is a tool aimed at analyzing PDF documents. The PDF format allows for previous document changes to be retained in a more recent version of the document, thereby creating a running history of changes for the document. This tool attempts to extract all previous versions while also producing a summary of changes between versions. This tool can also “scrub” or write data over the original instances of PDF objects that have been modified or deleted, in an effort to disguise information from previous versions that might not be intended for anyone else to read.
This tool and accompanying whitepaper can be found over at the labs:

Special thanks goes out to all the hr-geekers, and 757labs. Many were consulted on this and provided suggestions. including Tele, Derez, Remad, Count, Sunpuke. Special thanks to Brent, not really part of the 757 crew, but aided in proofreading the paper. Thanks Guys!

757labs presents : D-Link DKVM-8E Console Password Reset
by Ethan on Apr.15, 2008, under 757labs
Hello everyone,
I finally got around to writing up a quick release for 757labs.com late last night. I’ve been sitting on this one for a few months. D-Link (DLink?) doesn’t publish the information to reset the password on their DKVM-8E KVM switches. Well, I’m publishing it after poking around one and figuring it out. Most of the chips outside of standards are scrubbed (they grind off the top of the chip so you can’t read the part numbers).
Pretty simple, but will most likely be real useful. The service charge to have them reset it is a couple of Bennigan’s dinners. The instructions are HERE.
It is unknown if this will work on the D-Link DKVM-16E 16 port model.

NORFOLK: In what appears to be breaking new, er news, Ethan mounts his Segway again after being tossed and battered (deep fried salad?) only months ago. Is the leg ready to travel? Does his insurance know about this? Looks like its charged and ready to go and Ethan is poised to take on Norfolk Police again Segway style.

Release: Honda Accord Steering Wheel Controls to Pioneer Aftermarket Stereo (no adaptor required)
by Ethan on Mar.19, 2008, under 757labs
A few weeks ago I completed a pretty simple hack to directly control Pioneer after market stereos with the steering wheel controls of my Honda Accord (98 to 02 should apply). I wrote it up and posted it over at www.757labs.com. It should work with Sony decks as well (different resistor values). Do not know about Alpine, Clarion or other makes.

I’ve got another release coming soon as well.Enjoy!
