757labs presents : D-Link DKVM-8E Console Password Reset

by Ethan on Apr.15, 2008, under 757labs

Hello everyone,

I finally got around to writing up a quick release for 757labs.com late last night. I’ve been sitting on this one for a few months. D-Link (DLink?) doesn’t publish the information to reset the password on their DKVM-8E KVM switches. Well, I’m publishing it after poking around one and figuring it out. Most of the chips outside of standards are scrubbed (they grind off the top of the chip so you can’t read the part numbers).

Pretty simple, but will most likely be real useful. The service charge to have them reset it is a couple of Bennigan’s dinners. The instructions are HERE.

It is unknown if this will work on the D-Link DKVM-16E 16 port model.

I can confirm that this method works with DKVM-16.
My device doesn’t have ‘E’ at the end and I do not know is there any difference.

Brilliant, thanks for the post. You’ve really helped me out today. Short circuiting is something I normally do by accident, makes a change to do it on purpose!

The instruction link seems not exsiting any more. Can anybody send me a copy the instruction. I got one dkvm-8e and it ask me for password. tried reset it with BAND SELECT + PORT SELECT to reset it but still ask me the password. I entered the default 00000000 but did not help.

    thanks,

    Steve

If you find a moment, please email me a copy of the reset procedure as the link is now dead.

I tried 00000000 and it didn’t work. As the link to your solution is dead I’d really appreciate someone sending me the fix.

    thanks.

On the 8-port, holding the two front buttons, Bank Select and Port Select gave me a beep, then the password 00000000 worked. Using the Number Pad did not work (and just beeped at me), but entering the password using the 0 above the regular keyboard did work. Hope this helps.

As Pete says above, holding the two front buttons, Bank Select and Port Select gave me a beep, then the password 00000000 worked. Using the Number Pad did not work, but entering the password using the zero above the P on the regular keyboard did work – excellent, thanks guys!
